About ALF

ALF follows the adventures of Gordon Shumway, a furry, wise-cracking alien from the planet Melmac who crash lands into the garage of the Tanner family, who give him the nickname ALF, short for “Alien Life Form.”

Created by Paul Fusco (also the voice and puppeteer for ALF) and Tom Patchett (The Carol Burnett Show), the half-hour sitcom was a world-wide smash in the late 1980s, cementing itself in the pop culture zeitgeist.

The character spawned a legion of tie-ins, toys, and two animated spinoffs: ALF: The Animated Series, which acted as a prequel to the live-action series, and ALF Tales, a whimsical parody of classic fairy tales. He was also a regular on Hollywood Squares, appeared as a guest on popular shows like “Blossom”, and was even invited to perform at the White House.

In 1996, the creators revisited the world of ALF in order to tie up some loose ends, in the TV movie Project: ALF.

In 2004, ALF fulfilled his dream of having his own talk show with the aptly named ALF’s Hit Talk Show. Celebrity interviews included Emmy award-winning actors Bryan Cranston and Henry Winkler. ALF has appeared in Super Bowl commercials, as a spokes-alien for Direct TV Latin America, and performed guest spots on hit shows like Mr. Robot, Young Sheldon.

In 2022, Paul Fusco and Alien Productions partnered with Shout! Factory to bring ALF into the digital streaming world where you can now, for the very first time, watch him anytime across a multitude of platforms. Fans can look forward to new, original content, lost and never-before-seen footage, and other exciting projects. Stay tuned for more fan-tastic announcements!
